Graduates: Well-prepared to face the FUTURE. In spite of the global meltdown, the Administration and the Faculty of Western Institute of Technology believe that the newly graduates will achieve their goals and they will be successful to their chosen careers. Through the intensive curriculum prepared by the School and ideals of Wisdom, Integrity and Truth which are inculcated to every WITian are useful tools that could be used by the Graduates to meet the demand of today's competitive world. Mr. Herman Z. Basbaño who was the Commencement Speaker talked about how he became a good public servant to his fellowmen. WIT contributed a lot for what he is today. "During the time that I still was a student of this institution, I learned to be independent, respectful and obedient to the elders, especially to my teachers." gratefully expressed by Mr. Basbaño.
He also advised every graduate to use the learnings and experiences they earned in school to excel in the future. Mr. Basbaño belongs to Class 1978 of BS Chemical Engineering of WIT and now the Vice President and Operating Officer (AM Division) Bombo Radio Philippines. He is also the current President of Kilusan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas(KBP), National Level.
A total of 771 graduates were conferred with their respective degrees and granted titles and certificates during the 45th Annual Commencement Exercises held at the Big Grandstand, Ricardo T. Salas Campus last March 26. Twelve from the Graduates School, 87 from Civil Engineering, 53 from Computer Engineering, 60 from Electrical Engineering, 18 from Marine Engineering, 54 from Mechanical Engineering, 8 from AB English, 4 from BS Biology, 18 from Computer Education, 6 from BS Math, 35 from Accountancy, 219 from Business Administration, 13 from Office Administration, 34 recipients of Certificates in Computer Secretarial, 38 from Associate in Hotel & Restaurant Management, 45 Marine Students completed their Academic Requirements and 67 HRM students finished the 1-year Food and Beverage Services looked very proud as they marched on-stage to receive their respective diplomas and certificates. The outstanding graduates were announced b Dr. Graciela V. Pedregosa, Chairman, Council on Academic Affairs. Mr. Mc Jhogie B. Jornadal, BS Accountancy, is this year's Most Outstanding Graduate. He received a Gold Medal as Cum Laude and recipient of Rotary Club of Iloilo Award and PICPA Award. Being Cum Laude, he is also given the Civil Service Eligibility as mandated by Law to Honor graduates of the School. Likewise, Mr. Ronald D. Derla, BS Computer Engineering and Ms. Lynne D. Sacapaño, BS Office Administration also were honoured as Cum Laude and also received the Civil Service Commission P.D. 907 Eligibility. Engr. Richard S. Salas, School President, presented the awards to the Outstanding Graduates. Other awardees were: Lon P. Dañas Jr., BSME - President's Award for Leadership Loney P. Farillon & Maria Cielo C. Mirasol - Successfully completed the degree of master in Management at Philippine Christian University on January 22, 2008 Rubie T. Clavel - Master in Management at Philippine Christian University on May 21, 2008 Eleazar B. Somoba - 2nd Marine Engineer - 7th Place January 31, 2009 Randolph V. Tartana -2nd Marine Engineer - 4th Place September 27, 2008 Rechab T. Cabalfin - Registered Master Electrician - 4th Place, September 18, 2008 This year's commencement exercises was chaired by Mrs Marilyn M. Blancaflor, Head of Chemistry Department with the theme: "45 years of WIT: Doing Great Things from Humble Beginnings." |
