Valorous WITtian Spotted!

Captain Portillo was the only female member of the Military Observers and Contingent Force of the UN Multidimensional Peacekeeping Mission in Central Africa (MINUSCA), where she demonstrated a high level of professionalism, excellence, and leadership during her deployment from March 2022 to March 2023. During one instance, she encountered an armed group during their team site patrol, displaying tremendous courage and composure.

Her exceptional bravery was recognized by the United Nations on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers. Her achievements have brought immense pride not only to our school and fellow Ilonggos but also to the entire Philippines, serving as an inspiration to our students and community.

During her visit, she was warmly welcomed by Engr. Richard Kenneth F. Salas III, our school President, Vice President Sonia S. Dela Cerna, and Engr. Leanne Claire Marie Salas-Fernandez, Chair of the Council on Administrative Affairs.

Captain Portillo took a nostalgic stroll through both the Main Campus and RTS Campus, reminiscing about her cherished memories as a student at WIT. She also had the pleasure of meeting her former instructors at the College of Engineering.

In recognition of her exceptional service and remarkable accomplishments, Western Institute of Technology awards Captain Johanna Fe V. Portillo, PN(M), a Plaque of Recognition as we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the positive impact she has had on our institution and the entire WIT community.
