The ME Department’s Tribute to WIT’s 45th Anniversary… Yes! The Mechanical Engineering Department made it again. Another feather is added to its cap as it marked its 26th Board Topnotcher in 45 years. Believing in “Doing the right things right” in a Culture of Discipline and Excellence, the department is continuing its effort to become the Best Performing Department of Western Institute of Technology. Worthy of the recognition as Cum Laude, RUEL G. GRAVO, the 2008 Most Outstanding College Graduate ranked 3rd in the April 2009 Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination given on April 25-26, 2009 in Manila and Cebu City simultaneously. He obtained a rating of 88.05% and outranked the other examinees from the other well known universities and colleges in the country.
Ruel, a native of Pototan , Iloilo and the son of the couple Manuelito and Luisa Gravo, graduated as Valedictorian in his elementary education. He completed his secondary education at the Pototan National Comprehensive High School and finished with honors and awarded Best in Mathematics. A 2nd placer in the 2003 College Placement Test / English Entrance Test (CPT/EET) and a DOST entrance scholar, he immediately caught the attention of his mentors when he became the champion in the 2004 WIT Mathematics Quiz Bee competition. On December 2005, a team player himself, he was part of the team that bagged the championship in the 2005 PSME Quiz contest sponsored by the PSME Central Panay Chapter. With his brilliant mind, Ruel outwitted the other contestants in the departmental contest dubbed as Clash of the Minds 2007 and grabbed another championship in an individual category. Inspired by some great leaders, he tried his leadership ability and became the Vice President of the Student Government for academic year 2007-2008. If there is one thing that makes him busy aside from his academic work, he too has a passion for the game of Chess. A former member of the WIT Chess Varsity Team, this aspiring wood pusher improved his craft and was instrumental in giving WIT the gold medals in several PRISAA contests. Ruel’s outstanding achievement came at the most appropriate time. Indeed, a fitting tribute to the 45th Anniversary Celebration of our beloved alma mater. And as this prestigious academic institution is gearing towards the grand Golden Celebration, this department commits itself to perform even better. All for the glory of Western Institute of Technology…
